Rolvenden and Romney Marsh Cat Rescue was set up to meet a growing need for cat welfare work
in the Rolvenden, Ashford, Romney Marsh area surrounding in Kent. We assist
owners who are trying to find a new home for their pet, if neccesary
bringing the pet into care until a suitable home can be found. As well
as genuine strays whose owners cannot be located, cats need re-homing
for a huge variety of reasons - the owner’s death or
incapacity, divorce, redundancy, moving house, the arrival of a new baby, allergy, emigration…the list is
endless.
Hundreds of stray and unwanted cats and kittens need to be taken into care in this area every year. They may be in care for some time before a suitable home is found. In the meantime, the costs involved can be high, particularly if veterinary treatment is required. As an entirely voluntary organisation we rely on donations to pay for food and veterinary care, including neutering, vaccinations, worming and flea treatment.
The cats are housed mainly at our sanctuary in Rolvenden or in some cases with individual fosterers in their homes where extra time is needed which is particularly helpful for convalescing animals and those who need that little bit more attention. In some cases cats are in poor condition, extremely nervous or both when they come into our care. The fosterers and sanctuary restore them to good health, rebuild trust and confidence and provide plenty of TLC until the cats are ready to be placed in the right home.
Unfortunately, although hundreds of cats each year are successfully rehomed, there are always more cats in our care than new homes available, which is why we feel so strongly that all cats not required for breeding should be neutered.
